This recipe for Chocolate Christmas Crinkle Cookies is a festive twist on a traditional treat.

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder sifted to remove lumps
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ cup butter softened
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup light brown sugar packed
  • 1 egg lightly beaten
  •  teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Christmas sprinkles to decorate

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F/170C
Prepare 2 cookie sheets with baking paper
  2. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the chocolate chips on medium power in 30 second intervals until just melted.
  3. In a medium bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder and salt.
In a large bowl, beat butter, brown sugar and granulated sugar until creamy. Add melted chocolate and mix until combined. Add egg and vanilla extract and mix to combine well.
  4. Add the dry ingredients and mix until blended.
  5. Chill 20 minutes to 1 day (the longer you chill, the better the crinkle effect.
  6. Place ½ cup of the sprinkles onto a plate.  Roll the dough between your palms into 1 inch balls and roll into the sprinkles and place onto a prepared cookie sheet 2 inches apart and bake for 12-14 minutes.
  7. Cool on the pan for 5 minutes before placing on a wire rack to cool completely.

Recipe Notes

I have had feedback that the cookies didn't crinkle for everyone.  Please be sure to thoroughly chill the cookies before baking as they will not crinkle correctly.
